Nkhata-Bay School Plan Demos At ESCOM

Due to what the call unjustifiable delays to connect power at their school, Learners at Kapanda Community Day Secondary School in Nkhata Bay District have threatened to storm Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) offices if management officials continued playing hide and seek on the matter.

The school’s head-boy and head-girl, Rabecca Longwe and Mayamiko Manda says since they have lost trust in their school management that it is really engaging ESCOM officials on the matter, they have planned to storm the company on their own to address their concern.

Their head teacher, Daniel Kabiya has revealed that “since 18th December, 2021 when the transformer which was supplying electricity to the school got damaged by lightning, it has been a very big challenge for learners to study at night and learn computer lessons but in several attempts to liaise with ESCOM, their effort has proved futile,”

But ESCOM’s Spokesperson, Innocent Chitosi says Engineers are working tirelessly to rectify the problem to ensure that learners at the school are not disturbed and has since pleaded with them to exercise their patience.

“Our engineers are working tirelessly to ensure that power is restored at the school, learners should not continue being disturbed and this is an appeal to them to remain calm,” pleaded Chitosi.
