Former minister of justice and constitutional affairs in the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Arthur Peter Mutharika led administration, Bright Msaka has rejected the shadow cabinet post he was appointed by Leader of Opposition in parliament, Kondwani Nankhumwa.

In his letter dated 15th February 2022 addressed from his Machinga Likwenu Constituency office, Msaka excused himself from Nankhumwa’s appointment which has also invited heavy condemnation from the party’s National Governing Council saying he flouted procedures.

In a two paragraphed letter written to the office of the leader of opposition and copied to the Speaker of Parliament, Catherine Gotani Hara and his party (DPP) president, Arthur Peter Mutharika, the former justice minister says he is part of the party leadership which does not recognise the manner in which the shadow cabinet appointments were made.

“Am part of the party leadership which does not recognise the manner in which the appointment of the shadow cabinet was made. Accordingly, please be informed that I do not belong to the shadow cabinet,” stated Msaka.

Meanwhile, Nankhumwa is yet to comment of the sudden change of mind the Machinga Likwenu parliamentarian has made as regards to his appointment.
