The Mzuzu City Council has issued an immediate stop order to a contractor who wa hired to build a car washing bay adjacent to Katoto Secondary School along the Mzuzu-Lilongwe M1 road.

This publication established that some members of the Mzuzu City Planning Committee fraudulently gave concession to a developer to start working on an illegal sight breaking construction regulations.

Commenting on the matter, Mzuzu City Council ‘s Public Relations Officer, MacDonald Gondwe confirmed that indeed the stop order has been issued to the contractor.

“Your observation is correct and as a Council we also noted of that development and we quickly issued a stop notice, the council has issued a stop order,” Gondwe said.

However, the Council’s Publicist could not disclose the name of the owner of the illegal structure being constructed on the road earmarked to become the dual carriage way from Shoprite roundabout up to Lusangazi.

Despite Mzuzu being one of the fastest growing citìes in the sub-Saharan Africa, it’s town Council is struggling to evict those who have illegally settled on the Mzuzu-Karonga M1 road plying carpently, tombstones, carwashing and smooth quarrystone businesses.
