The Director General for the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Martha Chizuma made her first public appearance on Friday the 9^th of December since her arrest earlier this week.

Speaking during this year’s international Anti Corruption Day at Kasungu Stadium, the ACB boss made a point clear that the Bureau is ready to face any challenges dealing with those who embezzled public funds.

“We know that you are rich with the money stolen from public coffers, the K400 million channeled towards the ACB will prudently be used to fight graft at all levels without fear or favour,” said Chizuma amid hand clappings.

In her sermon Chizuma also made reference to Denis Thanthwe Mahata of the Mzuzu Anti-Corruption Movement’s remarks pronounced 20 months ago stating that “if the youth of today cannot deal away with graft then corruption will wipe out the whole future generation”.

In his speech President Dr Lazarus Chakwera tackled the issue of the demised police Criminal Investigations Officer, Bob Mtekama whom he said died while following up on very important cases that could expose cartels that led to the loss of huge sums of public funds.

“Mtekama mysteriously died when he was following up on such corruption cases, the inquest is still underway in court, those involved in corruption think they can threaten those oiling the wheels of justice,” Chakwera said.

A few days ago the United States of America (USA) Ambassador, David Young personally registered his concern with President Lazarus Chakwera over the arrest and humiliation of Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB) director general Martha Chizuma, saying those responsible must be held to account.
