Mzimba, Malawi : People of Mzimba-Luwerezi Constituency have all the reasons to smile following the completion of construction works on Kamilawanthu-Msusu Bridge where many years school learners have drowned during rainy seasons when the river gets flooded.

The K14 million Kamilawanthu-Msusu Bridge which has been constructed using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has shortened distances connecting some parts of the area similarly making it easier for farmers to transport their farm produce to the market.

Speaking to AfricaBrief after Commissioning the newly constructed bridge the parliamentarian for the area Samuel Chirwa said he is now relieved having fulfilled his campaign promise to construct the bridge at a very difficult but important place where all his predecessors since independence in 1964 could not dare try to construct even a simple bridge.

“People from other side of the constituency were facing difficulties to access some basic services like schools and hospital, transporting farm produce to the markets was not easy hence the need to prioritize the bridge construction project.

 “School children were drowning and also in times of funerals we were having difficulties to cross and am very sure the transportation of this year’s Affordable Input Program fertilizers and seeds will be done without any problem unlike the case was in the past years,” Chirwa said.

A Standard six learners at Milenje primary school, Gabriel Kaunda held the parliamentarian for initiating the bridge construction project which he said will go a long way in dealing away with problems that have been leading to absenteeism while the elderly were failing to access health friendly services.
