In an over reaction following their dissatisfaction for a 1-0 loss to Ekwendeni Hammers in a super league match at Mzuzu Stadium on Sunday, Blue Eagles provoked irate soccer enthusiasts who besieged on them after the game.

Soon after the last whistle of the match drama ensued when the National Police Headquarters boys descended on the officiating personnel led by Grade One, elite female referee, Rose Zimba to confront them for what the say refereeing decisions that led to their loss.

The situation went out of control when some players were seen chasing one of the assistant referees who fled and sought cover from the fans who immediately invaded the pitch to rescue the helpless officiating team who in retaliation pelted stones and other objects at angry Blue Eagles players.

The situation turned nasty when the irate football fans wanted to damage the police bus for Blue Eagles which was parked on the main entrance of the Mzuzu Stadium, prompting the police officers deployed for crowd control to start throwing teargas.

The whole stadium premises was in smoke forcing everyone to run for cover with another rapid response team from the Delta Division of the Malawi Police Mobile Service arriving a little late when the situation was already contained.

But speaking in post match interview Blue Eagles assistant coach, Christopher Sibale was on record saying that his team will launch an official complaint to the Super League of Malawi on the conduct of the officiating personnel.

“We will definitely launch a complaint to the Super League of Malawi, the officiation today was not up to date, I don’t usually complain about referees but this is too much,” said Sibale.

The Assistant coach for Ekwendeni Hammers, Lackson Nyoni was all smiles speaking highly of his charges for the execution of instructions according to the game plan.

“The last time we met Blue Eagles they luckily beat us 0-1 but it was a very close contest, today we were very confident to carry the day and surely victory and maximum point grabbed, we must be on 4th position now,” Nyoni said.

The Ekwendeni Hammers assistant coach further revealed that his team’s target was just to finish the first round in the top-8, and climbing up the ladder on the log table is just a bonus.

With the loss in Mzuzu on Sunday Blue Eagles are now in 8th position on the latest TNM Super League standing being led by Silver Strikers, seconded by FCB Nyasa Big Bullets while Might Mukuru Wanderers are on third place.
