Barely a day after an independent Parliamentarian and three ward councilors in Chitipa District joined the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), four other newly elected legislators and another ward councilor have followed suit today in Mzuzu.

The new Members of Parliament (MP’s) who have joined DPP are William Chikweta Kaweche (Mzuzu City South East), Jacob Mtambalika (Nkhatabay- Mpamba), Ackim Kumwenda (Mzimba West) and Chance Munthali (Chitipa South) as well as ward councilor Gabriel Mwaungulu, for Katoto-Chibavi ward in Mzuzu.

The five were officially welcomed in Mzuzu by DPP’s Vice President for the north, Jappie Mhango who was accompanied by Regional Governor Rev. Christopher Mzomera Ngwira.

“As a party with an open door policy we’re very excited to welcome the Parliamentarians and a ward councilor who have demonstrated the desire to develop their areas by working with Government of the day,” said Mhango.

Regional Governor for the north, Reverend Christopher Mzomera Ngwira challenged the parliamentarians and the ward councilor to focus of developing their areas as demanded by their followers who have overwhelmingly voted for Arthur Peter Mutharika.

In his remarks Mzuzu City parliamentarian, William Chikweta Kaweche couldn’t hide his desire to ensure that his constituency is developed for the betterment of the peoples livelihoods.

“Time for campaigning is over, let’s focus on developments of our areas. We have the mandate to improve our well-being,” said Kaweche.

On Wednesday, Fiskani Banert Nyondo, who won as an independent MP for Chitipa Central Constituency on September 16th general elections,  joined DPP alongside Lawrence Given Kitha, Gunda Phiri, and Giwez Munkhondya, who also won as independent councilors in the wards of Yamba, Kalenge and Songwe respectively.
