Kaputa Hails Moyale Barracks Sisters’ Technical Transition Despite Relegation Setback

By Draxon Maloya

Former Football Association of Malawi (FAM) Technical Director, John Kaputa, has commended Moyale Barracks Sisters for their ongoing technical transition, despite enduring a difficult campaign in the inaugural NBM Women’s Premiership Championship.

Kaputa praised the team’s ability to recruit, nurture, and blend both experienced and emerging players while the championship is still underway.

Youthful Moyale Sisters

Speaking on Sunday at the Luwinga Football Development School of Excellence in Mzuzu, the seasoned tactician refrained from commenting on Moyale Barracks Sisters’ looming relegation, instead describing the team’s overall performance as “phenomenal.”

He downplayed the team’s 0-4 defeat to fellow Malawi Defence Force side, KB Lioness, who capitalized on defensive lapses to register a commanding victory.

“Moyale Barracks Sisters have tremendously improved despite this high-margin loss. Let’s focus on the team’s technical ability to scout young talent, nurture it, and integrate it effectively while the league is still in progress,” Kaputa said.

In a post-match interview, a visibly dejected Moyale Barracks coach, John Chimwala, conceded defeat and confirmed the team’s relegation from the top-flight league.

“It wasn’t easy to build two teams midway through the NBM Women’s Premiership. I concede defeat, and surely, we’re relegated,” Chimwala admitted.

Regarded as one of the most disciplined coaches in the Women’s Football Championship, Chimwala ruled out any plans to disband the team or scatter the players, even in the face of relegation

It took the combined force of Sabina Thomu, Ruth Tambala, Salome Vinkhumbo, and Eltech Phiri  to dismantle the 3rd Battalion of the MDF, whose hopes of survival had already been extinguished.

Ruthless, KB Lioness

Meanwhile, all three northern region representatives—Moyale Barracks, Topic Academy, and MK Academy—have been relegated from the ten-member championship.
