Soccer analyst Charles Kabena has described former FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Chief Executive Officer Suzgo Nyirenda as the last “true football person” to lead the club’s executive after Fleetwood Haiya, arguing that the team has since declined from the top down.

Kabena, writing on his Facebook page, said Nyirenda’s tenure was marked by a strong reserve side that supplied a home-grown core capable of delivering the quadruple without heavy reliance on the transfer market. 

“Since Nyirenda left, the club has been mediocre from the top down. The reserve team is now a shadow of what it once was, while the main team is scavenging for leftovers. Half of Bullets’ starting XI arrived on free transfers,” Kabena observed.

He criticized the current leadership for failing to secure top talent, noting missed opportunities to sign players such as Andrew Joseph, Allen Chihana, Lamech Mithi, Kambilinya, Festus Dube, Yankho Billiat, and Chimwemwe Chunga. Kabena also lamented the loss of promising reserve star Oscar Petro, “regarded by many as the best thing coming in Malawi’s football.”

“Wadawada truly says we lack finishers. Imagine this executive couldn’t even convince a free Babatunde to join as a stop‑gap. That’s not bad luck, that’s bad recruitment,” he added.

Kabena further claimed that Gilbert Chirwa was left in charge to shield the club’s leadership from scrutiny, allowing fans to turn on the coach while executives bought themselves time. 

He urged new coach Wadson Nyirenda to demand a proper war chest for the mid‑season transfer window if Bullets are serious about competing again.

Kabena’s remarks come in the wake of Bullets’ exit from this year’s Airtel Top 8 competition, following a defeat to Ekhaya Football Club on Saturday at Mpira Stadium in Blantyre.
