The Central Region Water Board (CRWB) has launched the Integrated  Strategic  and Implementation  Plan (ISIP) for the Planning Period 2021-2026 in Dowa on Saturday, 11th of March, 2022.

The new ISIP has drawn four thematic areas with strategic issues that call for close attention to Water Supply and Sanitation Service, Financial Stewardship, Institutional Capacity and Internal Processes.

The Chief Executive Officer for CRWB,  Engineer John Makwenda, said among other thematic areas, in water and sanitation services, the Board has planned to increase water supply capacity from 87% to 95% by 2026 through extension and establishment of new schemes.

“The Board has planned to increase water supply service from an average of 17 hours to 23 hours through rehabilitation of schemes and enhance quality compliance from 93% to 100% through improved water quality management,” Makwenda said

He further stated that the Board has also planned to reduce Non-Revenue Water from 34% to 27% through integrated water management principles.

In her remarks, the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Abida Sidik Mia, urged the Board not to let the plan gather dust, but properly utilize it so that water and sanitation services should improve in the country.

“Vision 2063 states that there should be access to clean and affordable water for every Malawian and this plan fits well in that strategic plan, the Ministry will support all the Water Boards and other institutions so that all priority areas are implemented” said Mia.

Malawi Vision 2063 among others aims at ensuring a healthy population through the provision of clean water at household and community levels.
