Grezelder Continues Eroding DPP’s Good Image

BY POTIPHER CHABWERA

Some Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) sympathyzers have expressed disappointment with what is alleged to have been posted on Facebook by the party’s Secretay General, Gezelder Jeffrey.

The post in question lambasted the recently released from jail former DPP  Regional Governor for the North, Reverend Christopher Mzomera Ngwira for meeting the party’s president, Arthur Peter Mutharika on Wednesday this week.

One of the concerned party officials identified as Erick Kachalà says, Ngwira was invited by his party’s president and there is no harm for any party member to do so.

“DPP is one and it’s president is Arthur Peter Mutharika and who ever wants to meet the president is free to do so anytime, and after all it was the same Mutharika who appointed Mzomera as our Regional Governor.

“The outspoken GS should be advised to zip her mouth which continues to erode the party’s good image,” said Kachala.

Kachala further states that “The former president was sending top party officials who consistently cheered Ngwira when he was in prison. So he invited him to his house and being our parent and the leader of the party he has to honour the invitation. He owes no apology to anyone on that,” he concluded.

A few weeks ago the DPP leader Peter Mutharika denounced the party’s Secretary, General Grezelder Jeffrey and vice-president for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa for holding a rally in Lilongwe without consulting him.

In a statement, Mutharika claimed that he heard through the media that the party had two rallies when he was only aware of one, which he had been informed about describing Jeffrey and Nankhumwa’s actions as indiscipline and disloyalty.

Mutharika’s spokesperson Shadric Namalomba was quoted in a statement, as saying the party ought to be moving in unity if it is to return to rule this country.

But in a separate interview Jeffrey adamantly asserted that as DPP chief executive officer, she does not have to report everything she does in her capacity to the party’s president and the National Government Council.
